We are a nation of laws and, as a nation of laws, we must enforce all laws and not be selective. For over 180 years, the path to citizenship and employment has been legal immigration. We must ensure that immigrants wishing to come to America know that there is one and only one way to enter the country and partake of the opportunities America offers. When we look the other way and let illegal aliens cross our borders, overstay their visas and grant amnesty to the 12.5+ million illegal aliens already in the country, we are in effect encouraging illegal entry. Illegal aliens must understand that there are consequences, fines and deportation, associated with illegal entry and overstaying their visas. Ilegal aliens should not be granted citizenship or work permits unless they apply for legal entry, register with the government, pay fines and back taxes, agree to learn English and move to the back of the line. We must also address those who enter the country legally and over stay their visa. A large percentage of now illegal aliens entered the country legally. I will push to fully fund the completion and implementation of the entry/exit system, US-VISIT, at all borders and points of entry in which every person entering and leaving the U.S. is logged into a database which would notify law enforcement, businesses and others when a foreign tourist, student, worker or other fails to leave on-time. We must enforce current immigration laws, strengthen exiting laws, send a consistent message to all looking to partake of the American dream. We must promote the melting pot philosophy that made our nation great, multiple cultures united, one language, one people, one nation. One of our nations strengths is the flow of new immigrants who see opportunities others ignore, I will lead the way with legislation to impose strict penalties on those in this country illegally, fines on employers hiring illegal aliens, secure all borders and mandate that the attorney general enforces the Immigration and Nationality Act. The only way to American citizenship and employment is through legal channels.
