September 11, 2001 changed our lives forever. It changed how we view ourselves and our place on the international stage. Our nation now faces numerous threats at home and abroad. As we secure our nation, we must uphold the basis upon which the country was founded. Our number one priority must be the prevention of another terrorist attack on American soil, while preserving the rights and freedoms that characterize our nation. We need a domestic and foreign policy that provides Americans with the security that they expect and deserve. A key aspect of securing the nation is standing together with our allies, standing up to our enemies and being able to determine the difference between the two. The ability to determine who is a friend and who is an adversary is more important than ever with the increasing instability in the Middle East I will support and introduce legislation to secure our border, power plants, ports, harbors and refineries. I will work to ensure the Department of Justice and affiliated agencies enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act [8 U.S.C. 1103(b)] and work to end our dependence on an energy source that exposes our economy and security to the passing | | impulses of overseas petroleum barons. As a member of the House of Representatives. I will ensure that the federal government fulfills one of its prime responsibilities under the constitution, to provide for the common defense. I stalwartly support the philosophy that we be prepared to defend our nation, should always promote peace but if engaged, ensure victory in conflict. I will ensure that the Department of Homeland Security, affiliated agencies, our troops and our first responders have the tools necessary to protect and secure our country. We must demonstrate to our enemies and our allies that our strength is derived from the principles defined in the Constitution and protected by the Bill of Rights. If we abandon or compromise our principles, we will provide our enemies with their greatest victory. Therefore, I will always oppose and work steadfastly to repeal legislation that erodes the rights of the American people as defined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. "If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." James Madison "It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad." James Madison |
